MODIFICATION OF THE BEHAVIOR OF LIVING TISSUES AND CELLS BY ELECTRICAL MEANS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Surgically non-invasive method of and apparatus for altering the behavior of living tissues and cells by applying repetitive major unipolar pulses of electrical potential across the tissue and/or cells. Each major pulse is composed of at least three segments and is followed by a minor pulse of opposite polarity which diminishes to about zero potential. The peak amplitude of the final segment of each major pulse is at least equal to about the average amplitude of the following one of the minor pulses. The duration of each major pulse is no longer than about one-third the duration of the following one of the minor pulses. Each major pulse per- sists for at least about 100 microseconds, and the major pulses occur at a pulse repetition rate of between about 65 and 75 hertz for bone and other hard tissue in particular and average in potential between about 0.001 and 1.000 volt per centimeter of treated tissue and/or cells.
