ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mechanism for locking sliding windows or the like consists of a housing and a spring biased handle with a pivotal stump, being mounted within the housing against axial or radial displacement by means of at least one insert, to be fixed within a channel of said housing. A sliding bolt is mounted in the housing for selectively locking or unlocking the stump.
