ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A bolt holder for a bolt welding machine for headed bolts that are fed shank-end first through the bolt holder such that when fixed in the bolt holder the free shank end portion protrudes from the working end of the bolt holder, is modified to ensure positionaliy correct clamping of the bolts. Within the feed channel (4) of the bolt holder (1), close to the opening of the bolt holder (1) there is an annular groove (10) that encircles and holds the head portion (9) of the bolt (5), and is arranged in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bolt holder (1). In addition, the feed channel (4) of the bolt holder (1), in the feed direction of the bolts (5) is restricted conically ahead of the annular groove (10) by, as a minimum, a distance equal to the travel of the clamping jaws. The bolt holder (1), acted on by the bolts (5) that are fed through, can be spread apart against the force of the spring (material).
