Abstract The invention relates to a method of producing magnetically hard alloy particles having improved: corrosion and oxidation resistance for use in bonded permanent magnets, the method of making these magnets, and the magnets themselves. The alloy used comprises, in atomic percent, about 10-15% boron, about 6-10% rare earth metals, about 0-4% Zr, about 2-5% combined aluminum and silicon, about 0- 10% cobalt and the balance being iron. The alloy is melted and subjected to gas atomization to produce a chemically homogeneous powder that has particles with average grain size diameters of about 0.1-1 µm The powder can then be mixed with a polymer binder and molded to form bonded permanent magnets. - 1 -
