- 1 - Abstract: A bonding device is disclosed for use in a machine for applying a series of articles to surfaces of respective ones of a series of containers. The containers are held in receptacles on the periphery of a wheel that is rotated to bring the containers successively to a location where an article is applied thereto. The bonding device comprises an arm carrying a pressure plate for urging each article firmly against a container. The arm is oscillated so that the plate thereon describes a locus that extends from a withdrawn position to an active position in which the plate applies pressure to the article. The locus includes a portion extending tangentially of the wheel periphery when in the active position to travel with the article while applying pressure thereto. The plate can also describe an alternative locus in which it remains out of contact with the article.
