BONDING SYSTEM EMPLOYING PRIMER COATINGS COMPRISING CURED HYDROXYALKYL CARBAMATE-CONTAINING RESINS ABSTRACT A bonding system for bonding workpiece surfaces to one another comprising a primer coating on each of said workpiece surfaces and a structural adhesive, such as an epoxy resin adhesive, between the primer coatings. The primer coating comprises a cured polymer having hydroxy- alkyl carbamate groups and at least one tertiary amine group thereon and cross-linked by reaction of the hydroxyalkyl carbamate groups. The polymer may be obtained as the reaction product of: (a) an epoxy resin having an average epoxy equivalent weight of from about 100 to about 10,000 and (b) one or more secondary amines having at least one second- ary amine group and further having at least one hydroxyalkyl carbamate group or precursor thereof.
