ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for deploying a floating containment barrier from a self-contained transportable container when the container contacts a water surface. A storage craft containing the containment barrier and a drogue or sea anchor attached thereto is transported to its desired deployment position and the drogue is automatically deployed upon contact with the water surface. The containment barrier attached to the drogue is inflated and the separation of the containment barrier from the craft is also automatically accomplished.
