A boom mechanism that is cooperable with a lift vehicle or base structure (108) includes a tower boom (12) and an upper boom (20) liftable in a dependent relationship by a single lifting mechanism (28). The tower boom and the upper boom are respectively pivotally secured to an upright (16) having a fixed orientation by a tower link (34) or the like. A timing link (26) is secured between the tower boom and the upper boom, and a lifting mechanism is secured between the upright and the upper boom. As the upper boom is driven by the lifting mechanism, the timing link secured to the tower boom causes the tower boom to pivot about a tower boom nose pivot (18), thereby raising both the upper boom and the tower boom in a dependent relationship. The construction helps to minimize the need for tail and frame counterweight (112) by controlling a position of the platform (24) in configurations of both forward and rearward instability. As a consequence, the gross vehicle weight can be considerably reduced.

Selon l'invention, un mécanisme de la flèche pouvant coopérer avec un véhicule de levage ou une structure de base (108) comprend une flèche de tour (12) et une flèche supérieure (20) qui peuvent être levées solidairement par un mécanisme élévateur (28). La flèche de tour et la flèche supérieure sont respectivement fixées pivotantes à un montant (16) fixe par une attache de la tour (34) ou analogue. Un maillon de calage (26) est fixé entre le montant et la flèche supérieure. A mesure que la flèche supérieure est entraînée par le mécanisme élévateur, le maillon de calage fixé à la flèche de tour amène ce dernier à pivoter autour d'un pivot avant (18) de la flèche de tour pour soulever solidairement tant la flèche supérieure que la flèche de tour. Cette construction permet de réduire au minimum la nécessité d'un contrepoids (112) à la queue et au châssis, grâce au réglage d'une position de la plateforme (24) dans des configurations d'instabilité tant à l'avant qu'à l'arrière. Il en résulte une diminution considérable du poids brut du véhicule.
