The invention relates to a boom (1) for a sailing boat comprising: an elongate structure which bounds a cavity (3) extending in longitudinal direction; a slotted hole (4) extending on the top side thereof in longitudinal direction; and a pulling member (6) drivable by first drive means (5) and extending in longitudinal direction for pulling through the slotted hole into the cavity (3) and storing therein a part of the sail (7) to be rendered inoperative. The invention provides a boom (1) of the type stated in the preamble which has the feature that the slotted hole (4) is bounded by two mutually parallel prismatic edges (11, 12) with which a carriage (13) movable therealong co-acts such that the carriage prevents a relative displacement of these edges away from each other, which carriage is movable at least partly by second drive means (20).

La bôme (1) du type décrit dans l'introduction se caractérise en ce que le trou allongé (4) est délimité par deux bords prismatiques parallèles (11, 12) coopérant avec un chariot (13) monté mobile sur lesdits bords, de sorte que le chariot s'oppose à tout écartement de ces bords, ledit chariot étant mû, au moins en partie, par un second dispositif d'entraînement (20).
