Apparatus for positioning a power tong (50) at a desired location with respect to the distance above the rig floor, and with respect to the center of the rig floor. A pedestal (70) is secured to the structure of the rig. An upright member (75) is mounted to the upper end of the pedestal (70), with a bearing (70a) disposed between the upright member (75) and the pedestal (70), the bearing permitting the upright member to rotate around a vertical axis when moved by a powered ring gear assembly (70c). A telescoping boom (60) is rotatably mounted on the upright member (75), and one end thereof extends over the central part of the rig floor. Power tongs (50) attached to the boom may thereby be positioned at desired positions with respect to the rig floor. Controls (50a, 70b) mounted on the power tongs (50) and/or on the upright member (75) permit control of the rotation of the boom (60), the upright member (75), ang the power tong (50).

L'invention concerne un appareil permettant de positionner une clé à commande hydropneumatique à un emplacement voulu par rapport à la distance au-dessus du sol de forage et au centre de ce sol. Un socle est fixé à la structure du forage. Un élément droit est monté sur l'extrémité supérieure du socle, un palier, placé entre l'élément droit et le socle, permettant audit élément droit de tourner autour d'un axe vertical lorsqu'il est entraîné par un ensemble couronne de train planétaire à moteur. Une flèche télescopique est montée rotative sur l'élément droit et une de ses extrémités s'étend au-dessus de la partie centrale du sol de forage. Les clés de commande hydropneumatiques fixées à la flèche peuvent ainsi être installées à des emplacements voulus par rapport au sol en question. Des commandes montées sur lesdites clés et/ou sur l'élément droit permettent de commander la rotation de la flèche, l'élément droit et la clé à commande hydropneumatique.
