The apparatus (321) for severing a metal conduit (323) disposed in a borehole (325) includes a body adapted for lowering into the metal conduit (323) to be severed. The body is formed by a surrounding wall (331) defining an elongated chamber (341), having a lower (341 L), intermediate (341 (I)), and upper portion (341U). The lower portion (341L) defines a cavity (341L) with a plurality of apertures (351) through the wall (331) in a plane around the axis (343) of the chamber (341), for providing passages from the chamber (341) to outside the wall (331). Combustible charge (78) are located in the intermediate portion (341(1)) and a movable seal (361) is located in the cavity (341L) between the apertures (351) and the combustible charges (78). An ignition device (44), for igniting the combustible charges (78), is coupled to the upper portion (341U). The flame and hot combustion products move the movable seal (361), allowing the flame and hot combustion products into the cavity (341L) and out the apertures (351) to sever the metal conduit (323).

Ce dispositif (321) permettant de découper un conduit métallique (323) situé dans un forage (325) comporte un corps conçu pour descendre dans le conduit métallique (323) à découper. Ce corps est constitué par une paroi enveloppante (331) définissant une enceinte allongée (341) se composant de trois parties, inférieure (341L), intermédiaire (341I) et supérieure (341U). La partie inférieure (341L) définit une cavité (341L) comportant plusieurs ouvertures (351) traversant la paroi (331) sur un plan se trouvant autour de l'axe (343) de l'enceinte (341) afin de ménager des passages partant de l'enceinte (341) vers l'extérieur de la paroi (331). Des charges combustibles (78) sont placées dans la partie intermédiaire (341I) et un joint mobile (361) se trouve dans la cavité (341L) entre les ouvertures (351) et les charges combustibles (78). Un dispositif d'allumage (44) servant à enflammer les charges combustibles (78) est couplé à la partie supérieure (341U). Les flammes et les produits chauds de combustion déplacent le joint mobile (361), ce qui leur permet de pénétrer dans la cavité (341L) et de sortir par les ouvertures (351) et, ainsi, de découper le conduit métallique (323).
