A coating scheme comprising a boron and nitrogen containing layer that satisfactorily adheres to a substrate (2) is disclosed. The satisfactorily adherent coating scheme comprises a base layer (4), a first intermediate layer (6), a second intermediate layer (8) and the boron and nitrogen containing layer (10). The coating scheme is compatible with tooling for drilling, turning, milling, and/or forming hard, difficult to cut materials. The coating scheme has been applied to cutting inserts comprised of cermets or ceramics using PVD techniques. The boron and nitrogen layer preferably comprises boron nitride and, more preferably, cubic boron nitride.
L'invention concerne une structure de revêtement qui comprend une couche contenant du bore et de l'azote, et qui adhère de manière satisfaisante à un substrat (2). Ladite structure comprend une couche de base (4), une première couche intermédiaire (6), une seconde couche intermédiaire (8) et la couche contenant du bore et de l'azote (10). Ce revêtement est compatible avec les outils pour forer, tourner, meuler et/ou façonner des matériaux durs difficiles à couper. Il a été appliqué, par des techniques physiques de dépôt en phase gazeuse, sur des plaquettes de coupe constituées de cermets ou de céramiques. La couche contenant du bore et de l'azote contient de préférence du nitrure de bore et, idéalement, du nitrure de bore cubique.
