This invention relates to a lubricating oil composition, comprising: (A) a base oil and (B) a boron-containing compound represented by the formulae(RO)3- B or (RO)2-B-O-B (OR)2 (B-1) (B-II)or a cyclic trimeric structure (B-III), wherein in formulae (B-1), (B-11) and (B-111) each R is independently an organic group and any two adjacent R groups may together form a cyclic group; the lubricating oil composition containing sulfur, boron and optionally phosphorus with the ratio of sulfur to boron to phosphorus being represented by the formula S1 + 5B1 + 3P1 > 0.35 wherein S1 is the concentration in percent by weight of sulfur in the composition, B1 is the concentration in percent by weight of phosphorus in the composition; the concentration of sulfur in the lubricating oil composition being from 0.01% to 0.25% by weight; the concentration of phosphorus in the lubricating oil composition being up to 0.08% by weight.

(B-1) (B-II) ou une structure trimère cyclique (B-III). Dans les formules (B-1), (B-11) et (B-111) chaque R représente indépendamment un groupe organique et deux groupes R adjacents, quels qu'ils soient, peuvent former ensemble un groupe cyclique. La composition d'huile lubrifiante contient du soufre, du bore et facultativement du phosphore suivant un rapport entre le soufre et le bore qui est représenté par la formule S?1¿ + 5B?1¿ + 3P?1¿ > 0,35, dans laquelle S?1¿ représente la concentration en pourcentage en poids du soufre dans la composition, B?1¿ représente la concentration en pourcentage en poids du phosphore dans la composition; la concentration du soufre dans la composition d'huile lubrifiante étant comprise entre 0,01 % et 0,25 % en poids; la concentration du phosphore dans la composition d'huile lubrifiante pouvant atteindre au maximum 0,08 % en poids.
