ABSTRACT Novel compounds of the general formula: Image (I) wherein: (a) each R1 is a hydrocarbyl group, or a group of the formula: -(OR5)n-OR6, (i) -R5-(OR5)n-OR6, (ii) or Image (iii) and each R1 may be the same as, or different from, any other group R1. (b) R2 is a group as defined for R1, or a group of the formula: -O(R5O)nSi(R1)3 (iv) and each group R2 may be the same as, or different from, any other group R2. (c) each of R3 and R4 is independently a group of the formula: R2 -Si-(R1)2 (v) OR3 (vi) -B-OR4 (vi) -(R5O)n-R6 (vii) (d) R5 is an alkylene or an arylene group and each R5 may be the same as, or different from, any other group R5, (e) R6 is a hydrocarbyl group of hydrogen and each group R6 may be the same as, or different from, any other group R6, (f) n is zero or an integer and each n may be the same as, or different from, any other n. The compounds are useful as water scavengers, particularly for hydraulic fluids, as well as in paints, lubricating oils and electrical oils.
