A boss (30) for use in a shutter having blades, the boss including an axial pin about which the boss is adapted to rotate, a complementary surface adapted to engage a translating member such as a toothed rack, a bearing surface adapted to rest in or on a support in the shutter assembly and blade engaging means (48). A shutter assembly and blade configuration are also disclosed.
