The present invention provides an improved opener of the type which removes crowns crimped onto the pouring mouth of a bottle. The improved opener includes an anvil which is supported on substantially all but its leading edge, which edge has an arcuate configuration. The opener provides for increased contact with the edge of the skirt and reduces the possibility of damage to the bottle neck, in particular, the threads.
