A pet toy (10) has an elongated hollow body extending along a longitudinal axis (12) with first and second spaced bulbous sections (14, 16), each having a side wall (19) of substantially constant cross section throughout. The first and second sections (14, 16) each include respective first (28) and second (30) openings defining respective first and second diameters. A center section (18) has an inner surface forming a center opening (32) of a third diameter which is less than at least one of the first and second diameters. The center section (18) interconnects the first and second bulbous sections (14, 16). A plurality of longitudinally spaced annular ribs (24) extend around the periphery of the bulbous sections (14, 16) forming grooves (26) to facilitate an animal gripping the toy (10) with its teeth. At least one of the bulbous ends has an opening with a diameter greater than the diameter of the center section (18) so that a knot (36) of a pull rope (34) extending through the center of the pet toy will pass through the opening in the bulbous section but will not pass through the center section (18). Edible food treats (38) can be placed in the pet toy through the opening(s) (28, 30) in the respective bulbous sections (14, 16) and center section (18) which can be removed by the pet biting down on the pet toy and deforming the side wall (19). When the teeth of the animal deform an end of the pet toy, the ribs (24) deflect inwardly to clean the teeth and/or massage the gums. In a second embodiment, the pet toy has a hollow core of substantially constant cross section.
L'invention concerne un jouet (10) pour animal de compagnie présentant un corps creux allongé s'étendant le long d'un axe (12) longitudinal qui comprend une première et une deuxième section (14, 16) en forme de bulbe comprenant chacune une paroi latérale (19) de coupe transversale sensiblement constante. Les première et deuxième sections (14, 16) comprennent chacune une première (28) et une deuxième (30) ouvertures respectives définissant un premier et un deuxième diamètre respectifs. Une section centrale (18) possède une surface intérieure formant une ouverture centrale (32) d'un troisième diamètre inférieur au moins au premier ou au deuxième diamètre. La section centrale (18) relie les première et deuxième sections (14, 16) en forme de bulbe. Plusieurs nervures (24) annulaires longitudinalement espacées s'étendent autour de la périphérie des sections (14, 16) en forme de bulbe, formant des creux (26) permettant à un animal de saisir le jouet (10) avec ses dents. Au moins une des extrémités en forme de bulbe comporte une ouverture dont le diamètre est supérieur à celui de la section centrale (18) de sorte qu'un noeud (36) d'une corde de traction (34) s'étendant par le centre du jouet pour animal de compagnie passe dans l'ouverture de la section en forme de bulbe mais ne passe pas par la section centrale (18). On peut placer des friandises comestibles dans le jouet pour animal de compagnie par les ouvertures (28, 30) des sections (14, 16) en forme de bulbe respectives et de la section centrale (18), l'animal de compagnie pouvant retirer ces friandises en mordant le jouet et en déformant la paroi latérale (19). Lorsque les dents de l'animal déforment une extrémité du jouet pour animal de compagnie, les nervures (24) sont infléchies vers l'intérieur pour nettoyer les dents et/ou masser les gencives. Dans un deuxième mode de réalisation, le jouet pour animal de compagnie comprend un noyau creux de coupe transversale sensiblement constante.
