Abstract In a box girder having lateral web plates extending between top and bottom flanges, as a means of stiffening, an angle section is welded discontinuously to the web plates between the said web plates which join the flanges together. A triangle is formed out of an angle section and the web plate area lying between the legs of the triangle, the triangle preventing the box girder from changing into a parallelogram and imparting necessary stiffness to the web plates.
