The scraper comprises an open-bottomed box having a front wall open at its bottom end. A blade, carrying ripper teeth, extends across the bottom of the front opening. The box is suspended from a front hitch and a pivotally connected rear wheel assembly. The hitch is pivotally connected with the front of the box. Hydraulic cylinders are pivotally connected between the hitch and the box. A hydraulic cylinder is pivotally connected between the top end of the box rear wall and the wheel assembly. A second blade extends across the rear end of the box and protrudes beneath its bottom rim. By manipulation of the cylinders, the box can be forwardly tilted so that the blade/tooth assembly is downwardly slanted and the weight of the box acts to press it downwardly. When so tilted, the box can be advanced to break up hard or frozen material. The broken material is deposited back on the ground through the open bottom of the box. On a second pass, the box can be leveled to collect and remove the broken material using the second blade. The box can then be raised to leave or spread the broken material.
