A system, method and device for treating tumor cells utilizing a resorbable therapy seed made up of microspheres containing a beta- or alpha-particle- emitting radiation source and a resorbable polymer matrix. These seeds are implanted within the tumor and then rapidly dissolved so as to release the microspheres from the polymer matrix. These microspheres then spread within a preselected target area and provide radiation therapy in a predetermined amount and at a preselected rate according the specific needs and necessities of the users. The configuration of the microspheres, the types of radiation provided and the location and use of these microspheres provides desired localized treatment to target cells while preferentially avoiding or minimizing undesired damage to surrounding tissue. The present invention provides a method for making the seeds, as well as the use of said seeds for the manufacture of a medicament for treating cancer.
L'invention porte sur un système, une méthode et un dispositif de traitement de cellules tumorales à l'aide d'un grain thérapeutique résorbable constitué de microsphères contenant une source de rayonnement émettant des particules bêta ou alpha et une matrice polymère résorbable. Ces grains sont implantés à l'intérieur de la tumeur puis rapidement dissous de façon à libérer les microsphères de la matrice polymère. Ces microsphères s'étalent ensuite à l'intérieur d'une zone cible présélectionnée et fournissent une thérapie par rayonnement selon une valeur prédéterminée et à une vitesse présélectionnée en fonction des besoins spécifiques et des nécessités des utilisateurs. La configuration des microsphères, les types de rayonnement générés et la localisation et l'utilisation de ces microsphères assurent un traitement localisé souhaité à des cellules cibles tout en évitant ou en minimisant de préférence une lésion indésirable aux tissus environnants. La présente invention porte sur un procédé de fabrication des grains, ainsi que sur l'utilisation desdits grains pour la fabrication d'un médicament permettant de traiter un cancer.
