A medical instrument such as a cardiac defibrillator and monitor is supported over the leg section of an ambulance cot by a bracket which comprises a post fixed to a side rail of the cot frame and an L-shaped arm pivoted to the upper end of the post to take an operative limit position with the longer arm section extending horizontally in cantilever fashion over the cot; hooks and restraining levers are pivoted to the L-shaped arm to engage and retain the medical instrument within the L- shaped arm; the post is telescopic and rotatable so as to enable adjustment of the level of the instrument above the cot and its horizontal orientation; the instrument can be pivoted upwardly to an out-of-the-way position to facilitate patient transfer onto and from the cot; the bracket can be removed from the cot and the arm, hooks and retraining levers pivoted into a folded position alongside the post so that the entire bracket takes a minimum of room when not in use.
