The present invention provides a flexible, low profile vascular occlusion device having large volume filling capa-bility and high metal content for fast occlusion, of the type fabricated from braided tubular metal fabric having an expanded preset configuration and an elongated collapsed reduced diameter configuration for delivery through a catheter to a treatment site and shaped to create an occlusion of an abnormal opening in a body organ or vessel, the woven metal fabric having a memory property whereby the medical device tends to return to said expanded preset configuration when unconstrained. The device further includes a first shape formed from the braided tubular fabric consisting of a repeating pattern of expanded volume segments separated by small diameter articulation segments and a second overall device shape comprised of the first shape formed about itself in various shapes to occlude a vessel. In one embodiment a shaping wire contained coaxially within the tubular braid, provides or assists in the formation of the second overall device shape.
La présente invention porte sur un dispositif d'occlusion vasculaire mince, flexible, ayant une capacité de remplissage de volume importante et une teneur en métal élevée pour une occlusion rapide, du type fabriqué à partir d'un tissu métallique tubulaire tressé ayant une configuration préréglée expansée et une configuration de diamètre réduit pliée, allongée, pour une distribution à travers un cathéter à un site de traitement et dimensionnée pour créer une occlusion d'une ouverture anormale dans un organe ou vaisseau corporel, le tissu métallique tissé ayant une propriété de mémoire par laquelle le dispositif médical tend à retrouver ladite configuration préréglée expansée lorsqu'il est non contraint. Le dispositif comprend en outre une première forme formée à partir du tissu tubulaire tressé consistant en un motif de répétition de segments à volume expansé séparés par des segments d'articulation de petit diamètre et une seconde forme de dispositif global composée de la première forme formée autour de lui-même dans diverses formes pour occlure un vaisseau. Dans un mode de réalisation, un câble de formage contenu coaxialement à l'intérieur de la tresse tubulaire, fournit ou aide à la formation de la seconde forme de dispositif global.
