A brain neuron protecting agent containing a dihydropyridine compound of the general formula: Image wherein R1 is a nitrophenyl group and R2, R3 and R4 are each same or different lower alkyl group or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The use of the dihydropyridine compound for the manufacture of a mediane for protecting brain neuron in mammal including human beings is also disclosed. This compound inhibits by its Ca2+ antagonistic activity the breakdown of cerebral neurocytoskeletal proteins due to intracranial ischemic disorder.
