A brake assembly (1) for motor vehicles and similar which comprises a rotating body (2) that is integral with a wheel of the vehicle such that it can rotate together with the same wheel around the wheel's axis of rotation (A), a support structure (3) firmly fixed to the structure of the vehicle that supports said wheel so as to be positioned close said rotating body (2), at least one brake pad (4) in a material with a high coefficient of friction that is mounted in a movable manner on said support structure (3) such that can make contact with the surface of said rotating body (2), and means of support and hydraulically operated movement (5) able to selectively push said pad against the surface of said rotating body (2). The brake assembly (1) also comprises at least one heat-insulating plate (6) inserted between said pad (4) and said means of support and hydraulically operated movement (5). In particular, the heat-insulating plate (6) has a multilayered structure that comprises two external layers of composite material and at least one compact inner layer of a material selected from the group of compact silicate, mica paper and phlogopite mica paper.

Selon l'invention, un ensemble de freinage (1) pour véhicules à moteur et similaire comprend un corps rotatif (2) solidaire d'une roue du véhicule de sorte que ledit corps peut tourner avec celle-ci autour de l'axe de rotation (A) de la roue, une structure de support (3) fixée fermement à la structure du véhicule qui porte la roue de manière à être positionnée à proximité du corps rotatif (2), au moins une plaquette de frein (4) en un matériau possédant un coefficient élevé de frottement qui est montée de manière à se déplacer sur la structure de support (3) pour pouvoir entrer en contact avec la surface du corps rotatif (2), et un dispositif de support et de déplacement à commande hydraulique (5) capable de pousser sélectivement la plaquette contre la surface du corps rotatif (2). L'ensemble de freinage (1) comporte aussi au moins une plaque d'isolation thermique (6) insérée entre la plaquette (4) et le dispositif de support et de mouvement à commande hydraulique (5). Notamment, la plaque d'isolation thermique (6) a une structure multicouche qui comprend deux couches externes d'un matériau composite et au moins une couche interne compacte d'un matériau choisi parmi le groupe de silicate compact, de papier mica et de papier mica phlogopite.
