A brake disc for use in disc locking systems in oil well drive heads. The disc comprises a circular disc having a plurality of longitudinal bores radiating through the disc. A plurality of tubes having a substantially smooth inner bore are fitted in the bores. The disc is formed around the tubes by a casting process which results in a metallurgical bond between the disc and the tubes. The outer surface of the tubes may be grooved to increase the bonding surface area. The tubes may also be tapered to decrease in diameter from the inner end to the outer end.
