The brake is mounted to the front of an in-line roller skate and has a brake pad provided with two braking surfaces, one of which faces down and the other of which faces up. The former surface is used to brake the skate but the pad may be rotated when that surface is worn so that the other surface may be used to brake the skate. The brake pad is attached to the skate by means of a L-shaped bracket. The brake pad is attached to one arm of the bracket while the other arm is attached to a side wall of the roller skate.
