-10- ABSTRACT A brake pad has a lining with particulate graph- ite material embedded therein. A leading portion of the rake lining has a higher concentration of he graphite particles embedded therein than a remaining portion of the lining. A brake rotor is lubricated simultaneously as it contacts the leading edge of the brake lining to maximize the effectiveness of the lubricant at the leading edge 65 of the brake lining. In this way brake noise is decreased.
