The brake system includes a brake lever independent of, but capable of rotating about the same point as a bell crank. Upon receiving a downward force, a member extending from the lever strikes a portion of the bell crank and generates a force that cause the bell crank to rotate. Rotational action of the bell crank transfers rotational energy to an equalizer bar thorough a linkage system. The equalizer bar's rotation increases or decreases tension on brake bands that slow a tubing drum. A cylinder can activate and cause the equalizer bar to rotate, applying tension to the brake bands and slowing the drum. Rotational energy is transferred back to the bell crank through the linkage. The rotational energy is absorbed by a spring positioned between the bell crank and the brake lever, thereby reducing the amount of sudden force passed through the brake lever to an operator.

L'invention concerne un système de freinage qui comprend un levier de freinage indépendant d'un levier coudé mais pouvant tourner autour du même point que celui-ci. Après réception d'une force dirigée vers le bas, un élément qui s'étend depuis le levier de freinage entre en contact avec une partie du levier coudé et génère une force qui amène le levier coudé à pivoter. La rotation du levier coudé assure le transfert de l'énergie de rotation à une barre de stabilisation raccordée à un système de timonerie. La rotation de la barre de stabilisation augmente ou réduit la tension sur les rubans de frein qui ralentissent un tambour tubulaire. Un cylindre peut activer la barre de stabilisation et amener celle-ci à tourner, par application d'une tension sur les rubans de frein qui ralentissent le tambour. L'énergie de rotation est renvoyée au levier coudé par la timonerie. L'énergie de rotation est absorbée par un ressort positionné entre le levier coudé et le levier de freinage, ce qui permet de réduire la quantité de force soudaine transmise par le levier de freinage à un utilisateur.
