ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A braking system for vehicles in which each wheel of the vehicle is arranged to drive a variable displacement hydraulic pump, the output of which is restricted to cause a slowing force on the wheel. A directional control is incorporated with a servo- control valve which is responsive to operator signals acting through a relay system. Electrical back-up controls are provided to take over in the event of fluid supply failure, and brake balancing with anti- lock-up valves are incorporated in the system together with a static brake which locks the wheel when the vehicle comes to a stop.
