The friction lining (14) is positioned on the outer surface (18) of the brake drum (12). The brake band (16) has a generally cylindrical interior surface (50) corresponding to the outer surface (18) of the brake drum (12). The interior surface (50) of the brake band (16) engages the friction lining (14).
