A braking arrangement (100) for a wheel (1) of a shopping cart or the like includes a braking arm (9) moveable about an axis (3) from a free running position to a braking position when the wheel is lifted from the ground. The braking arrangement includes a damping assembly (19) which initially resists movement of the braking arm towards the braking position.
