ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a braking rudder device consisting of a fixed rudder post and a rudder pivotable about a fixed axis. The rudder is divided along its plane of symmetry into two blades, which may be pivoted in- dependently through an angle up to 110° around the rudder pivot axis, along which they are pivotally connected. The trailing edge of each blade is in the form of wedge, and each is stiffened by a plurality of horizontal plates. In the extreme outboard position of the blades, the plates bear upon the rudder post. The trailing edges of the blades are preferably fitted with vertical flaps capable of turning by an angle up to 90°.
