ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Branched amides of D-amino acid of the formula: Image (v) wherein Ra is CH2OH or CH2OCH3; and Rc is an alkyl, cycloalkyl or heterocycloalkyl group which is branched at the alpha carbon atom and branched again at one or both of beta and beta' carbon atom. They are useful as intermediates for preparing L-aspartyl-D-amino acid dipeptides of the formula: Image (I) which are useful as sweetening agents for food.
