2078111 9115290 PCTABS00007 The present invention relates to a surfactant having general formula (I) where R is a hydrocarbon containing 4-6 carbon atoms; r is 0 or 1; Y is an alkylene group having 1-3 carbon atoms and optionally containing a hydroxyl group; m1 and m2, being the same or different, are 0 or 1, both m1 and m2 not being 0 at the same time; A is an alkyleneoxy group derived from an alkylene oxide having 2-3 carbon atoms; and p has an average value from 0 to 1.9; or a salt thereof. The surfactant and a microemulsion containing said surfactant are suitable for use in enhanced oil recovery.
