A method and a device provided for detecting and localising non-palpable breast cancerous lesions comprise detecting a breast lesion solely by scintimammography with 99m-Tc Sestamibi, and using gamma camera imaging and stereotactic technology for stereotactically localising the breast lesion. For doing so, the X, Y and Z co-ordinates of the lesion are determined. This is achieved typically by determining the Y co-ordinate by imaging, the X co-ordinate by imaging from a pair of directions extending through the lesion and disposed at a known angle to each other, and the Z co-ordinate by geometrical calculation from the known angle.
