ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bridge top stop having a pair of flanged rims projecting outwardly in parallel spaced relationship from an inverted U-shaped member. The flanged rims are each of constant width throughout the full length thereof. For mounting the bridge top stop adjacent the upper ends of a pair of slide fastener stringers, the flanged rims are compressed toward each other for gripping engagement of the opposed reinforced edge portions of the stringer tapes. The compression is effected such that it results in the spacing between the flanges of the rims being greater at the area of the base of the "U"-shape, as comapred with the spacing at the two arm sections of the "U" wherein the tapes are engaged, whcih results in an improved uniformity of grip between the stop and the fastener, without subjecting the reinforced edges of the tape to an undue, weakening deep penetration by the flanges of the rims. The central or base section of the "U" is reinforced to provide counteraction to the rim- spreading-apart forces present at the base of the "U" due to resiliency of the reinforced edges of the fastener.
