ABSTRACT A broadband longitudinal vibrator transducer (4) having a laminar head mass section (20) including at least three layers (21, 22 & 23) coupled to electromechanical transducer elements (1). The head section (20) includes a forward head mass (21), a compliant member (22) abutting the forward head mass (21) and a rear head mass (23) abutting both the compliant member (22) and the transducer elements (1). The compliant member (22) allows the head mass section (20) to mechanically resonate in at least two frequencies expanding the bandwidth of the transducer. The compliant member (22) can be an active transducer element (25).
