On prévoit de remplacer tous les traitements à l'intérieur d'un modulateur par une table précalculée qui délivre, par une simple lecture, un signal modulé en fonction d'un signal modulant. La fréquence de porteuse du modulateur est même programmable. On montre qu'on réduit la taille de la table précalculée en réalisant un automate. Avec l'automate, l'adresse de lecture de la table, à un moment donné, dépend de valeurs précédentes du signal modulant. Par une lecture de la table en temps partagé, on peut même, avec un seul modulateur, effectuer le travail de plusieurs modulateurs. On réalise alors facilement un modulateur multiporteuses.
