Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to an optical-fiber switch for use in switching a plurality of optical signals which are capable of being modulated with a broadband radio frequency signal. The switch is comprised of a plurality of optical-fiber elements for feeding respective optical signals to a plurality of fixed positions associated with respective optical fiber elements. A further optical-fiber element having one end which is movable between a plurality of selective positions, is provided, located adjacent and facing the plurality of fixed positions. A drive unit is provided for moving the further optical-fiber element between the plurality of selective positions to selectively feed the optical signals between one of the plurality of optical-fiber elements and the further optical-fiber element. A plurality of light emitting positioning units are provided, each located adjacent a respective one of the plurality of fixed positions. Light sensitive elements are provided adjacent the further optical-fiber element to receive light from the light emitting units. The light sensitive element is associated with the drive unit to selectively align the further optical-fiber element with one of the fixed positions associated with respective light emitting positioning units.
