ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel ring-brominated derivatives of tetraalkyl dihydroxy diaromatic compounds, e.g., 4,4-(1,2-ethanediyl)bis(3,5- dibromo-2, 6-dimethyl-phenol) are prepared by contacting a tetraalkyl dihydroxy diaromatic compounds with a brominating agent in the presence of a reaction medium. The curable epoxide resin resulting from the ring-brominated derivatives can be employed in the fields of surface protection, the electrical industry, laminating processes and the building industry.
