A B S T R A C T Polyesters are prepared by reacting penta- erythritol in the liquid phase with HBr and a dicarbox- ylic acid having at least four carbon atoms. Bromine replaces some of the hydroxyls in the pentaerythritol while controlled polymerization occurs between the pentaerythritol and the dicarboxylic acid.
