Bromine-containing compounds (10), added to the coal (16), or to the boiler combustion furnace (14), are used to enhance the oxidation of mercury, thereby enhancing the overall removal of mercury in downstream pollution control devices. The method is applicable to utility power plants equipped with wet FGD systems, as well as those plants equipped with spray dryer absorber FGD systems.
L'invention concerne des composés renfermant du brome (10), ajoutés dans du charbon (16) ou dans le four de chauffage d'un brûleur (14) et utilisés aux fins d'amélioration de l'oxydation du mercure, de manière à ainsi améliorer l'élimination globale de mercure dans des dispositifs aval de lutte contre la pollution. Le procédé peut être mis en oeuvre dans des centrales électriques équipées de systèmes de désulfuration des gaz de combustion (FGD) par voie humide, ainsi que dans celles équipées de systèmes FGD absorbeurs à séchage par pulvérisation.
