The present invention provides a brush cutter for use in cutting small trees, shrubs and bushes to the ground. The brush cutter is mounted on a wheeled frame for movement over the ground and can cut brush to ground level. The brush cutter comprises a frame, a drive motor mounted on the frame, a substantially horizontal cutting blade for cutting brush, transmission means for communicating rotational power from the drive motor to the cutting blade, a push handle connected to the frame for guiding the frame in movement across ground to be cleared of brush, wheels for supporting the frame for movement across the ground, and a retractable cutting blade cover to enclose the cutting blade.
