BUFFERING DATA SIGNALS ABSTRACT The data bandwidth of a set of alternating buffers is broadened by switching or alternating between -the buffers when one of the buffers is empty and another buffer receiving signals has received a predetermined number of signals even though that receiving buffer is not yet full. Data can be transferred in blocks of data bytes; then switching between buffers occurs on the address boundaries of such data blocks. Therefore, switching or alternating between buffers can occur at a plurality of points within receiving one of the buffers. The just described apparatus is useful for connecting a plural-port high-speed common unit to a plurality of data burst units such that each data burst unit has greater access to the high speed common unit.
