A buffing and polishing ball made of a compressible polymeric foam material is formed by slitting a body of foam material in a substantially uncompressed state (1) from an outside surface of the body in a direction generally perpendicular to the rotational axis and (2) on circumferentially spaced planes that extend generally radially from the outside surface of the body to define a plurality of foam fingers. A fastening system is used to compress and hold a center portion of the foam body in a direction along the rotational axis such that the uncompressed outer ends of the fingers assume a generally spherical ball.
Boule de lustrage et de polissage constituée par une mousse polymère compressible et dont la fabrication consiste à fendre un corps de mousse pratiquement non comprimé (1) depuis la surface extérieure dudit corps dans un sens généralement perpendiculaire à l'axe de rotation et (2) dans des plans espacés sur la circonférence s'étendant dans un sens généralement radial depuis la surface extérieure du corps afin de définir une pluralité de doigts en mousse. On utilise un système de fixation afin de comprimer et de maintenir une partie centrale du corps en mousse dans un sens s'étendant le long de l'axe de rotation, de sorte que les extrémités extérieures non comprimées des doigts prennent la forme d'une boule généralement sphérique.
