A building construction shore has telescopically extensible and retractable inner and outer tubular members formed with laterally projecting and recessed portions extending longitudinally of the inner and outer tubular members. The laterally projecting and recessed portions are slidably interengaged so as to allow relative longitudinal displacement, while preventing relative rotation, of the inner and outer tubular members. Threaded projections on the inner tubular member are held at a spacing from the outer tubular member by the interengagement of said laterally projecting and recessed portions thereby avoiding damage to threads by contact with the outer tubular member.
