ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Building frame construction comprising upper and lower wall plates and wall studs. Each wall plate has a cross- section of a generally channel shape defined by two side flanges joined by a web. Each flange has an inturned rib. The wall studs join the upper and lower wall plates. Each wall stud also has a cross section of general channel shape defined by two side flanges joined by a web. The flanges of each stud have surfaces that define grooves adjacent at least one end which engages the inturned ribs of a plate upon erection to retain that stud end to that plate. The studs and wall plates are of metal. The invention reduces the amount of on-site labour and simplifies frame assembly. The invention avoids the prior art necessity for metal fasteners and for the centres of the wall studs to be accurately positioned because of the need to accommodate fixed sizes of the panels that are used.
