A bumper includes a tubular primary beam, such as a rollformed D-shaped beam made of high-strength steel, with at least one longitudinal channel formed in its face surface. One or more mild steel thin-wall tube sections are positioned in the channel(s) and welded in place for increased strength in selected areas, while permitting overall weight savings in the bumper.

Pare-chocs comprenant une poutre principale tubulaire, par exemple une poutre avec une section en D, obtenue par laminage à partir d'acier à haute résistance, avec au moins une gorge longitudinale formée sur sa surface avant. On installe une ou plusieurs sections tubulaires à paroi mince en acier doux dans la/les gorge(s) et on les soude en place pour accroître la résistance dans des zones choisies, tout en permettant des gains de poids globaux dans le pare-chocs.
