A burner and heat exchanger assembly includes a housing having an interior cavity with an interior burner surface. There is a heat exchanger within the cavity for transferring heat from fuel burning in the burner to a fluid. The housing may include a hollow cylinder with the cavity being cylindrical. The interior burner surface is then a portion of a cylindrical inner wall. The heat exchanger includes a cylinder with a cylindrical outer wall spaced-apart radially from the interior surface of the burner. The housing may include a closed end wall at a first end thereof. The burner is adjacent the second end of the housing. The cylinder of the heat exchanger projects into the burner.
