The invention relates to a burner device for liquid fuel, particularly for use in a heating unit of a motor vehicle, comprising an electrically heatable preheating element (14) for preheating fuel before its combustion. The invention is characterized in that the preheating element (14) is part of a measuring circuit by means of which the preheating element (14) can be supplied with an electrical measuring current (IM) in order to determine an electrical resistance.
